The Universal Towers HD 4-90 is a (9) Section, 90' Foot Tower with Embedded Concrete or Flat Roof Mount Base (Optional). This tower is designed for up to 4.38 Square Foot of Wind Load at 80 MPH depending on Antenna Placement Height, Site Location and appurtenances added to Kit Package ordered. Available with a 2.00, 1.25, 1.625 inch Collar at Top of Pinnacle or a Beacon Mounting Plate on a Straight Top Section in Optional Substitution.
Aluminum Freestanding Heavy Duty Kits are made with Straight and Tapered Sections for a Self-Supporting tower with a safe maximum antenna Wind Loading (EPA) at Specific Heights. Universal towers are made with Rugged, High Quality Heavy Walled Aluminum Alloy Tubing Legs and Welded S-Bracing Reinforcement for strength as well as light weight.

Base Option-Ground Mount or Roof Mount
The Ground Mount is the Most Common Application and pretty straightforward. The Ground Mount Hinged Base follows the Bottom Section Size and thus, so does the Concrete Pad requirement in correlation. All Wind Loads represented are predicated on this type of Installation in an open area away from other structures. The Roof Mount has additional requirements as Towers erected on this Base Fixture will Require Down Guys. Factory Engineering and Guidance to be invoked in ascertaining Height, Windspeed and Antenna Loading Limitations pertaining to Your Particular Installation, as will a Competent Structural Engineer to assess Roof Attachment and Load Bearing Methods. The Engineering will include the Guying Details based on the Information you have provided.
Top Cap Option-Collar, Thrust Bearing or Beacon Plate
Packaged Tower Kits typically include a Top Cap Section with 1 of 3 sizes of Mast Collar; 1-1/4" OD, 1-5/8" OD or 2.00" OD. You can Special Order Your Kit with a Thrust Bearing Top Plate welded onto a Mast Collar. The Thrust Bearing Top Plate is designed for the Universal Towers UV-TB158 and UV-TB2316 Thrust Bearings. (Sold Separately)
In Selecting the Universal Towers UV-BP Top Beacon Plate Option, the usual 11-TOP, 14-TOP or 18-TOP section will be substituted with a STRT Tower Section of the same size with hardware to Mount and Affix the UV-BP Beacon Plate. Field drilling may be required to mount any appurtenances onto the Beacon Plate itself, with hardware to be supplied by You or the Vendor of Your Particular Accessory or you can Cap your Tower with a STRT Section absent a Plate when Placing an Order by Phone.

Packages typically include a mast collar for a 2 in. OD mast with a welded bearing mount top plate specially drilled Thrust Bearing Model: 1 5/8" SC 4-B & Model: 2 1/16" SC 4-B, sold separately. Packages with other mast collar sizes and without bearing top plate are available by request. A variety of optional Rotator Plates are also available. Chose yours to fit the top section of the tower package selected; R-11, R-14 or R-18. Each is available un-drilled or pre-drilled for popular rotator models. Universal Towers Aluminum Masts in various lengths and sizes are available. Roof mounts are available and may require Outside Engineering Assistance for Permitting, etc.
How to install a Universal Towers Foundation and Base
When installing one of our bases it is important to make sure you have the base submerged in the concrete to the proper depth. When digging the hole we have specific depths depending on the base you are installing for instance the B-18 base requires a hole to be 3’ x 3’ x 4’ deep. This being said you will want to measure from the bottom of the base leg up 4’ and put a line with a marker and that is how far the concrete should be poured to. If the base has a 5’ deep hole then you will want to measure up 5’ on the base. This is also true if the base requires a 6’ deep hole then you would measure up 6’. It is important to understand that wherever there is a weld on the base it should not be seen above the concrete as the concrete helps to support the base from long term metal fatigue.
Concrete Specification
The minimum strength concrete should be of 3000 psi. This is a mass foundation, so its main purpose is to act as a counter weight for the tower against Wind load and Seismic Events
Preparation of the Base Legs
We recommend filling the base leg openings that are in the concrete with play sand. You should fill it up just about an inch shy of the top and then cap it with silicone caulk to cap it off. This will keep any water from getting down the tube.
